Boost a goose’s well-being whilst boosting your own!
Go for a waddle with some friendly Sebastopol Geese in Wales. Spend a special hour or so in the company of a friendly pet goose, whilst helping boost their mental and physical health.
You’ll be in the company of Daisy & Emma, a pair of gentle geese, who have been hand-reared and are very affectionate and people orientated. They love walking and taking in the stunning scenery of the Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacons National Park whilst interacting with their human handlers.
This unique goose adventure is for tiny group private sessions which includes up to 4 places, and you will be accompanied by their loving owner, Heidi Kitchen. Aside from enjoying their gentle company on the walk, you can learn from Heidi about their welfare and how walking is great enrichment for them. The geese are pets – they will see out their natural lives under the gentle care of their owner.
The simple act of walking geese in a new area encourages natural foraging behaviour, and exploration helps geese develop their instinctive spatial development. Walking a goose is also simply just good physical exercise, building leg muscle and enabling them to stretch their wings once in a while.
The walks are usually held above Talybont Reservoir, near Crickhowell with far-reaching views. The goose walk itself is not too long or difficult and you’ll be offered refreshments at a resting point part way round. Full directions are given on booking.
This goose experience is mostly suitable for adults, but quiet animal-loving children over 10 yrs can attend if well supervised. These sessions are only for private groups and we recommend 4 people or less. The session costs £120, so only £30 per person if you bring 4 people. It lasts around 60 minutes including vegetarian snack refreshments. We can cater for allergies and vegans if we know at least a week in advance. Additional spaces over x 4 can be added at £20 per person but please note that there are only 2 geese that will accompany you.
Daisy & Emma’s owner will show you how to interact with the geese safely and will be on hand to ensure you and the geese have a good time. As the welfare of the geese is of prime importance, we will only hold this experience during the summer months when bird flu is unlikely to be a hazard. All biosecurity guidelines will be followed. The geese have special neoprene bootees to protect their feet should they need them. Please note that we will cancel or rearrange this activity should the geese not wish to walk, or should the weather forecast be looking too inclement. Should we need to cancel, every effort will be made to rearrange to suit you where possible.
If you would like to buy undated Goose Walking vouchers as a present for a poultry lover, you can look forward to a special day out & UK staycation with friends and family in 2025 & 2026. Undated gift vouchers are available – view the calendar to book a specific date. The vouchers can be used against any of our experiences if the recipient wishes to swap.
The experience includes being introduced to the piggies, then you and the cute little pigs will have a yomp along the valley with the route adjusted slightly according to weather & ground conditions. You will be walking along fairly level ground that can be muddy at times, possibly with some uneven areas. If it’s not too muddy, you’ll have a quiet potter with the pigs across scenic meadows and take a paddle with the pigs in the river Senni.
After returning to the smallholding, you will have ample refreshments whilst taking in the lovely scenery. If you prefer to just be piggy walking without the picnic, have a look at our Piggy Walk in the Valley experience which is the walking without the cakes.
Please enquire about dates to suit you if your preferred date is not shown in the calendar, as this is usually possible as long as your piggy walker and the pigs are available. You can book individual places or we can take bespoke small group bookings.
Walks are late March to October as long as the weather isn’t too inhospitable. Group sizes are a maximum of 8 people unless you book as your own private session. We offer a “Private Piggy Walk” version if you would like to guarantee the walk just for you as long as there are no prior bookings on that session. We can also arrange private walks on demand for the route to be more suitable for those with limited mobility.
We recommend this is suitable for children over 10 years as long as they are not boisterous. We do not offer discounts for children as this would mean that our adult prices will need to be increased. Most of our visitors are adults but quiet animal-loving children are welcome – it is preferable that children are booked on private walks and must be accompanied by not less than a ratio of 2 children to 1 adult. Babies who are not walking are free of charge but must be carried safely (push chairs not allowed) – we do recommend private walks for families so children and the pigs can get used to each other and communicate in a kind and safe, interactive way. The piggies are pets and not petting farm animals so can react to sudden noise or movements – they enjoy their walks in company and meeting our walkers.
This is a smallholding and the pigs are pets – they will see out their natural lives under the gentle care of their owner. Should weather conditions be averse, we’ll be in touch to reschedule or refund. Slightly rainy weather is fine but with extreme heat, cold or very wet windy weather, the pigs will retire to their sty. Their welfare is paramount but they do live in Wales and normal rain is fine!
Long sleeves & trousers are recommended plus strong insect repellent in summer as there are horse flies that bite!
Wellies or waterproof boots advised, (even in summer as the pigs will be muddy even if the ground isn’t). Kindly note that the actual walk is normally about an hour through level easy walking, but the pigs sometimes want to go home earlier or later! In summer months if conditions allow, the walk will sometimes take you to the river where you will be able to paddle with the piggies but we obviously cannot predict when this will be possible.
Please book through the calendar on this page or enquire for specific dates. If you wish to buy an undated voucher, please use the Buy a Voucher button either buy specific or general Gift Vouchers as great special presents. All our vouchers come with information and a gift card as standard. If you wish to buy a “Private” Piggy Walk for a specific date, these are only available where there are no prior bookings.
No! Sorry, but dogs are not allowed on our walks as they can stress the animals. When it is hot, we do not have any shady places to park, so please do not assume you can leave your dog in the car while you visit. Please contact us if you would like a recommendation for a dog sitter.
The donkeys are at a different location about 30 minutes’ drive away, so please bear this in mind if you wanted to book both activities on the same day.
No! We are in a rural area with a tiny population that doesn’t have any bus services nearby. The nearest town accessible by train then bus is Brecon, so we would suggest staying there and travelling by taxi. Do please lobby Welsh Government if you think that is unreasonable.
