Spend the day photographing Red Kites and other wildlife in the Brecon Beacons with amazing award-winning nature photographer Gareth Scanlon who is often found backpacking through the South Wales wilderness, photographing the breath-taking scenery and fascinating wildlife.
Gareth has a background in nature conservation, and a long history of watching and interacting with red Kites – he will help you understand how they fly and, to a certain degree, how to predict their movement and flight paths, making it easier to capture the image. The knowledge & insight from this day out can be applied to garden bird photography, and you shouldn’t fail to capture some stunning photos of these beautiful raptors.
Each day is restricted to a small group of max 4 people, but larger groups can book special days. Participants must bring their own camera, ideally with a telephoto or zoom lens of some type. Tea & coffee will be provided “outdoors style” on a camp stove but please bring your own food and drink as this will be at a remote location with no shops nearby. You’ll be outside so suitable footwear and warm sensible clothing is essential including scarves and hats.
Please book or enquire here for specific dates, but if you wish to buy an undated voucher, please visit our Gifts section where you can either buy specific or general Gift Vouchers as great special presents.
11.30am start until 5.30pm
As with all Good Day Out experiences, a good cause benefits from you buying a voucher. In the case of the Red Kite Photography day, a portion of each voucher will go towards the Red Kite Feeding Centre at Llanddeusant in the Brecon Beacons.
Gareth Scanlon provides the centre with photographs that they sell and use to promote their work of keeping a resident population of Red Kites in the area since their reintroduction in 2002 after near-extinction.
“We would rather people come to see the bird at feeding stations than go tramping through the countryside looking for their nests and eggs”
Tony Cross, Welsh Kite Trust.
