Spend an relaxing and enjoyable afternoon learning how to paint with watercolours, with mini donkeys as your subjects
About this activity
Learn how to paint donkeys using watercolours with local Welsh artist Karin Mear, and our pair of friendly mini donkeys as your subjects.
This engaging and informal art class is held in a scenic field near Sennybridge, in the Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacons and you will be free to stroke and cuddle the donkeys throughout the afternoon. The donkeys will be in a separate enclosure so you can paint without their help!
No prior experience needed as Karin will guide you through how to paint animals using watercolours, but all levels are welcome.
Karin Mear is a member of The Welsh Group of artists and exhibits frequently in Wales and elsewhere in the UK.
What to expect
All materials are provided and you will have a chair and table to work from as well as shade under a gazebo. The session lasts over 2 hours and you can expect to have created a donkey painting to take home.
This activity is aimed at adults and is £35 ppn. We don’t have any more planned for 2025 but book ahead for 12th July 2026 at 2pm. If you are interested in other dates for a join-in session or have a small group who would like to attend, please get in touch

Common Questions
What to expect from your donkey painting art class?
The experience is held in a field where the donkeys are normally happy and calm.
You will be learning to paint with watercolours and all materials will be provided.
The donkeys will be in a separate enclosure but you will be free to interact with them for a stroke & a cuddle throughout the afternoon.
We also offer Dinky Donkey Walks along scenic paths around the farm and for people with less confidence or mobility and for children, we recommend our Dinky Donkey Hugs sessions.
How to Book your Paint a Dinky Donkey art class?
This activity will only be on limited dates through the summer.
Please go our the booking calendar to book, but do enquire if your preferred date is not shown in the calendar.
This activity is aimed at adults. We recommend this is suitable for children over 12 years as long as they are not boisterous, and they must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Groups and team-building sessions can be arranged in conjunction with other activities – do ask!
What to Wear for the art class?
Long sleeves & trousers are recommended plus strong insect repellent in summer as there are horse flies that bite!
Sturdy shoes, wellies or boots advised, (even in summer). Open toes shoes or sandals are not recommended if you wish to interact with the dinky donkeys.
Can dogs come along?
No! Sorry, but dogs are not allowed on our sessions as they can stress the animals. When it is hot, we do not have any shady places to park, so please do not assume you can leave your dog in the car while you visit. Please contact us if you would like a recommendation for a dog sitter.
Can I see the pigs?
The Pigs are at a different location about 30 minutes’ drive away, We also require that you see the Donkeys before the pigs as the smell of the pigs can scare the Dinks so they would need to be booked for a different day.
The sheep dog sessions are about a 45 minute drive away.
Can I reach you by public transport?
No! We are in a rural area with a tiny population that doesn’t have any bus services near enough to walk from. The nearest town accessible by train then bus is Brecon, so we would suggest staying there and travelling by taxi. You could also stay in Sennybridge which is over 3 miles away, but there are no taxi services & you will still pay for a taxi to come from Brecon. Do please lobby Welsh Government if you think that is unreasonable.
