Want to move sheep like in One Man and His Dog? Meet some working sheepdogs and their young owner, Ross Games, who breeds and trains Welsh Border Collies for working farms as well as competition trials. Moving sheep using working dogs is a traditional rural skill which is increasingly rare but sheep herding is fantastic to watch.
Ross will introduce a selection of his dogs and show how he works with them at different levels of their education. After some demonstrations, you will have the opportunity to have a go yourself at instructing a sheepdog to herd some training sheep.
This friendly and informal experience is held on a traditional working farm in the Eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park near Crickhowell. You can book now for dates in May to October 2024 – please go to our Gifts section for gift vouchers where people can book their own dates. If you would like to buy undated vouchers as a present, you can look forward to a special day out with friends and family. You can also book a private session for up to 4 people for £160, with additional places at £40 ppn. Individuals can book on a normal join-in session places are £40 with a max of 6 people per group. Pop to our Gifts page for these or stay on this page to see our booking calendar for availability.
Times: 10.00am start for 90 mins. Children of age 17 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult. Sorry no visitors’ dogs as we are a sheep farm and the surrounding common land is freely grazed by sheep. As this is a very small group experience on a working farm, bystanders or spectators are not permitted.
Ideal for couples (especially as a 7th wedding anniversary wool present!) and also individuals with a maximum of 6 people per join-in session unless you book in as a specific group. Groups of more than five can also enquire about booking their own session. The comfort of the dogs and the sheep is taken into consideration at all times. We do not currently have a Shearing or Lambing experience but please enquire or sign up for our (infrequent) Newsletters if you would like to receive information about any sheep related experiences in the future.
Please book or enquire here for any other dates, but if you wish to buy an undated voucher, please visit our Gifts section where you can either buy specific or general Gift Vouchers as great special presents. Individuals can book on the calendar dates but this experience is also occasionally possible for small groups of at least 4 people to book for your own dates during the summer if Ross and his dogs are free, or private sessions for any number from 1 can also be booked!
