Want to move sheep like in One Man and His Dog? Meet some working sheepdogs and their young owner, Ross Games, who breeds and trains Welsh Border Collies for working farms as well as competition trials. Moving sheep using working dogs is a traditional rural skill which is increasingly rare but sheep herding is fantastic to watch.
Ross will introduce a selection of his dogs and show how he works with them at different levels of their education. After some demonstrations, you will have the opportunity to have a go yourself at instructing a sheepdog to herd some training sheep.
This friendly and informal experience is held on a traditional working farm in the Eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park near Crickhowell. You can book now for dates in May to October and gift vouchers are available so people can book their own dates.
Individuals can book on a normal join-in session for £40 ppn with a max of 6 people per group. Private sessions include 4 spaces for £160, with additional places at £40 ppn.
Ideal for couples (especially as a 7th wedding anniversary wool present!).
The comfort of the dogs and the sheep is taken into consideration at all times.
Individuals & private groups can book on the calendar dates but this experience is also possible for private sessions to suit you during the summer if Ross and his dogs are free.

Sheepdog Experiences are available May to October as long as the weather isn’t too bad. Individuals can book through the site for join-in sessions (max 6 people) and for your own private session. If you can’t see a date that suits you, please enquire.
Suitable for animal-loving children over 12 years. Quiet younger children are welcome as part of a private group booking. We do not offer discounts for children. Children of age 17 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Long sleeves & trousers are recommended plus strong insect repellent in summer as there are horse flies that bite!
Sturdy boots are advised, as you will be in a field.
Sorry but no. This is a tiny group experience & all who watch are participating.
No! Sorry, but dogs are not allowed and we do not offer training for your own dog.
When it is hot, we do not have any shady places to park, so please do not assume you can leave your dog in the car while you visit. Please contact us if you would like a recommendation for a dog sitter.
The donkeys and pigs are at two totally separate locations about 45 minutes’ drive away, so please bear this in mind if you wanted to book both activities on the same day.
Not without a walk of about 3kn! The nearest town accessible by train is Abergavenny, then a bus is possible along the A40.
Arrival by car or bicycle to the meeting point is regrettably the only viable way. The field, which varies, will be about 1km from the meeting point.
