Maverick & Goose tackle The Beacons!

Join Maverick & Goose this Thursday

Sponsored walk along The Gap Road to help Betty the Donkey

Hoping to see some of you on our walk with little Dinky Donkeys Maverick & Goose as we trek through the Brecon Beacons to raise money to help Betty with her vets bills for her recent operation. The boys’ little hooves face their biggest challenge and although they aren’t allowed up Pen y Fan, we will be taking the Gap Road that was the ancient main route from the south towards Brecon.

Details of the challenge are:

Thursday 8th August
8.45am Meet at the Neuadd car park below the Lower Neuadd Reservoir (grid ref. SO038169 – to the north west above Pontsticill Reservoir).
9am – set off heading North along the bridle path Gap Road.

As parking at the far end of the walk could be difficult, we recommend anyone wishing to join us to start the walk with us and either walk out as far as you want and back, or do The Horseshoe Ridge Walk taking in Pen & Fan.

Dogs on leads are welcome to join us but please keep at a distance from the Dinkies as they do not like dogs and could kick or chase.

The walk isn’t too difficult but there are some steep sections with loose stones. The Dinkies are desert animals so should cope well with the terrain but we will walk at a pace to suit them.

The walk should take around 2 1/2 to 3 hours to allow for rests and a bit of grazing and rolling as needed.

Cwm Cynwyn Farm is our destination at Cantref, and they have kindly offered limited parking in their camping field should you wish to park there and walk to greet The Dinks from the Northern side. Please advise us so we know how many cars to expect and please note it will be field parking so 4WD advised to limit any damage if it’s still wet (Lat/Lon 51.903094,-3.397947)

You can read more about the walk and Betty’s story on our Justgiving crowdfunding page, which has already attracted fantastic support to help her recovery.

Hope to see you on the day, or please check our Instagram and Facebook pages for updates on Thursday!

Oh, and if you prefer a Piggy meander with a lovely afternoon tea, then you can join Babz, Holly, Hazel & Willow for a special Piggy Walk on Friday 9th August at 2pm – the piggies and their lovely handler Helena Barnard wanted to help and have pledged all funds taken from this walk to help Betty.
